Identity

The Scenic Route is a non-profit organization that encourages participation in meaningful activities geared towards personal fulfillment.
We do so by grafting our programs onto the type of educational structure you are currently following, be it Formal, Informal or Non-formal.

We consider direct experience and focused reflection to be integral parts of a meaningful learning experience.
Our programs are designed accordingly.

After all,Theory is vacant without Practice.

Educational Techniques

Our inspiration draws from three particular academic fields of research. These are:

An experiential educational approach that deals with the inter-relatedness of the social, economic, and ecological dimensions of a given problem.

It offers the opportunity to research, describe and interpret human behavior in real life situations within an interdisciplinary context.

  • Promotes Participation and Involvement,
  • Draws Attention to Controversial Issues of Conflicting Interests
  • Motivates towards Effective Action

A systematic research that identifies, records, and classifies a community’s tangible and intangible cultural assets.

It involves the process of collecting, storing, and disseminating information by employing a culturally-sensitive anthropological outlook.

  • Locates Connecting Links of Social Nature,
  • Tests the Functions of Behavioral Patterns,
  • Defines Elements of Cultural Identity and Sense of Place.

A reflective and evaluative thought process that results in a reasonably justified argument of ascertained validity.

It rests in the formation of those cognitive skills and dispositions that effectively identify, analyze, and evaluate arguments and truth claims.

  • Overcomes Subjective Predispositions and Biases,
  • Supports Argumentative Clarity and Vigor,
  • Formulates Transformative Policies of Intelligent Design

Methodology and Implementation

Following the principles of Case Study Research, our educational programs are structured in three distinct stages. These are:

Documentation Analysis

The theme is related to the participants and the nature of the program is explained; information on the educational stages and on the ways to interact with the process are provided; the area to be researched is defined in accord with the learning objectives; the participants are presented with the educational material and perform practical exercises and simple tasks.

Results

The participants digest the material related to the program content; a common context of reference is formed; roles are assigned in the spirit of team building; additional material is gathered and disseminated

Direct / Participant Observation

The group assembles on the landing stage; a thorough equipment check is performed and adjustments are made accordingly; areas of doubt, difficulties, misapprehensions and omissions are addressed; constant interactions between the group and the local community are promoted; with itinerary in hand, the Scenic Route(s) are undertaken and completed.

Results

The data collected in the field are transcribed and reviewed; the veracity of the information already gathered is assessed; engagement with local community strengthens mnemonic patterns associated with familiarity.

Visual Analysis

The participants and the community are offered the opportunity to evaluate the preliminary work carried out in the previous stages; The program is reviewed and possible discrepancies are identified and ameliorated; the conclusions are developed into a whole and imparted to the interested parties directly involved.

Showcase

The results of the program are presented to the partners, the community and its leaders, the governmental and the traditional authorities, and other interested parties.
